Tomahawks, Sabers enjoy wins; WLC’s Jacob hits milestone

It was a good Thursday for the Merrimack High School field hockey team as well as the Souhegan girls volleyball team.

Plus, late Wednesday Wilton-Lyndeborough girls soccer standout Elizabeth Jacob enjoyed a record-setting performance in leading her team to a win.

Here’s the rundown on all the local success:

FIELD HOCKEY

MERRIMACK 2,

SALEM 1

Erin Knauer scored for the Tomahawks on a penalty stroke in the third quarter, while Chloe Kapsambelis also scored in the third, assisted by Paige Rivet off a penalty corner.

Natalia Gonzalez was in goal for Merrimack(2-0-1) with five saves

Merrimack hosts Nashua South on Tuesday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

SOUHEGAN 3,

PELHAM 0

The Sabers evened its record to 2-2 with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-11 sweep of the Pythons.

Katerina Stuopis led the way with eight kills and five aces. Hannah Carroll added 16 assists and five aces, while Allie McCall had six kills, four aces for the winners.

GIRLS SOCCER

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 7,

CONANT 1 (Wednesday)

The Warriors’ Elizabeth Jacob scored four goals with an assist to reach the 100-point career mark as a junior, allegedly the first player in WLC girls soccer history to accomplish the feat.

“This is an incredible achievement for a very talented player,” Warriors coach Dan Ayotte said.

Also scoring for WLC (2-3) were Emily Dubois, Brooke Lane, and Sophia Sistachs, the latter on her 18th birthday. Sam Boette also made her return to play after her ACL injury at the end of last season.
