FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Four games left on schedule tonight

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Oct 2, 2020

Telegraph photo by TOM KING Josh Compoh (26) and the rest of his Nashua South teammates are back in action tonight at Pinkerton.

The Merrimack-Nashua North football game may be cancelled, but there are four local games Friday and one Saturday, two of them (Hollis Brookline-Milford, Souhegan-Bishop Guertin) all-local matchups.

Note that BG at Souhegan was moved from its original Friday time to Saturday, reportedly due to availability of officials.

DIVISION I

NASHUA SOUTH (0-1) at PINKERTON (0-1)

WHEN: Tonight, 6:30 p.m.

WHERE: Pinkerton Academy’s Alumni Field.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

LAST WEEK: Nashua North 24, Nashua South 7; Londonderry 23, Pinkerton 14

FYI: Neither team was happy with its offense last week; Nashua South had a total of 138 total yards, 71 on one pass play. Two bruising runners are in this one, fullback Evan Wilson for Pinkerton and Jason Compoh for Nashua South.

GOFFSTOWN (1-0) at ALVIRNE (0-1)

WHEN: Tonight, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Alvirne High School.

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

LAST WEEK: Salem 46, Alvirne 12; Goffstown 26, Bedford 21

FYI: The tough transition to Division I continues for Broncos, and it doesn’t get any easier despite great play from senior quarterback Kyle Gora. The Grizzlies are expected to be title contenders, led by the Henaults, quarterback Jarrett (16 of 20 completions for 184 yards and one TD vs. Bedford) and safety Jeremy (nine tackles and an interception).

DIVISION II

HOLLIS BROOKLINE (0-1) at MILFORD (0-0)

WHEN: Tonight, 6:30.

WHERE: Milford High School

LAST YEAR: Milford 35, Hollis Brookline 21

LAST WEEK: Souhegan 20, Hollis Brookline 0; Milford did not play.

FYI: The Cavaliers will be looking to get their offense, stymied last week, in gear. Meanwhile, Milford will likely go with its ground and pound game led by Caden Zalenski and Logan Barnhill.

DIVISION III

CAMPELL (0-1) at PELHAM (1-0)

WHEN: Tonight, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Pelham High School

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

LAST WEEK: Monadnock 28, Campbell 20; Pelham 42, Sanborn 0

FYI: The Cougars hope they can muster up more offense than they did in the second half when Monadnock limited their ground game; Hunter Caron is definitely a big threat. The Pythons will likely feed the ball to back Ethan Demmons, who ran for 107 yards last week.

INTER-DIVISION

BISHOP GUERTIN (0-1) at SOUHEGAN (1-0)

WHEN: Saturday, 6 p.m.

WHERE: Souhegan HS Saber Field

LAST YEAR: Did not play.

LAST WEEK: Merrimack 21, Bishop Guertin 14; Souhegan 20, Hollis Brookline 0.

FYI: Guertin certainly will key defensively on Sabers running back Riley Lawhorn, who rushed for 236 yards. He’s a threat on defense, too, as he had an interception. Brendan Callahan, as expected, is a key for BG (five catches for 87 yards last week). Should be interesting since these two don’t usually play.
