Cavs girls volleyball team opens with 3-0 win over South

The Hollis Brookline High School girls volleyball team, anxious to start another Division I title streak, started its season on a good note with a win over last year’s Divison I champions, Nashua South, in Hollis.

The Cavaliers (1-0) swept the Panthers (0-3) 25-22, 25-10, 25-10 as Angelina Leonard had a stifling 35 assists with Sarah Dreyer (13 kills) and Hanna Close (11 kills) adding to the offense.

Natalie Boyle had eight kills and Anne Sherman tossed 10 assists for South in the loss.

Hollis Brookline visits Bishop Guertin on Monday and South hosts Merrimack on Tuesday.

The Cardinals (2-0) took the final three games to defeat the Tomahawks (0-2) 21-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-8, 15-11.

Julia Foster (27 assists, six aces) and Caroline Sullivan (22 assists, nine kills) combined for 49 assists. Emma Charron (17 digs) and Maddy Keating (19 digs, five aces, six kills) controlled the defense and Meghan Stack added 12 kills for BG. Lily Petrocelli had five kills, 10 digs and two blocks while Lindsey Hui had 20 digs.

Guertin hosts Hollis Brookline on Monday and Merrimack hosts Nashua North on October 2.

MILFORD 3,

PELHAM 0

The Spartans (2-0) win 25-15, 25-14, 25-11 to sweep the Pythons. Emma Tronkowski played phenomenal finishing the game with 19 assists, seven digs and four aces. Ella Williams (seven kills, two blocks), Izzy Unsworth (seven kills, two aces, three digs) and Madison Murphy (eight assists, two kills, one ace) contributed in the victory.

Milford visits Souhegan on October 2.

CAMPBELL 2

Joe Mahoney crashed the net in the 38th minute to score the game winner for the Cavaliers (2-0). Aidan Dufoe and Ethan Smith also tallied goals, while Liam Troddyn and Bryan Wright added assists.

Jack Noury and Michael Decarli found the back of the net for the Cougars (1-2).

Hollis Brookline hosts Milford and Campbell hosts Pelham on October 3.

Rachel Gizzonio scored in the first half for the Spartans (2-0) on assist from Brook Gizzonio while Alina St George had a nice finish in the second half.
