Coy, Curran, McIntire and Marchand top Nashua athletes

NASHUA – As the high school year comes to a close – this weekend would have been Championship Weekend for the spring season – the Nashua Athletic Department hit the road late this week.

As it is with a lot of the delivery companies these days, there were a lot of stops to make.

Nashua South and North announced their year end athletic awards, which also included close to 50 12-season career senior athletes. All the awards were home delivered late this week by school officials.

As was reported last week, Kirsten McIntire (field hockey, basketball, lacrosse) was named Nashua South’s Out standing Female Athlete. The full awards list has been released and the Panthers’ Outstanding Male Athlete was indoor and outdoor track standout Paul Marchand.

Nashua North’s Outstanding Female Athlete award went to Abby Coy, a volleyball, indoor and outdoor track standout. The Outstanding Male Athlete award went to cross country and indoor-outdoor track standout Rory Curran.

South’s Female Scholar Athlete award went to volleyball and Unified outdoor track competitor Cara Lecklider. Patrick Hyde, who played soccer and was an outdoor track competitor, was the Male Scholar Athlete award winner.

South’s Female Co-Unsung Hero Award winners were Madison Sewade (field hockey, Unified basketball and lacrosse) along with Sarah Signorello (field hockey, Unified basketball, and lacrosse).

Soccer and basketball player Riley Olsen was South’s Male Co-Unsung Hero winner along with Kyle Salemi (football, wrestling and lacrosse).

North’s Female Scholar Athlete award went to Sarah Kelley. Kelley competed in cross country as well as indoor-outdoor track. The Male Scholar Athlete award winner was another cross country-track athlete, Jamie Maddock.

The Titans Female Unsung Hero Award was given to field hockey and lacrosse player Theresa Ellison. The Male Co- Unsung Hero Awards went to Tyler Griffin and Yassine Jakib. Griffin competed in football, wrestling and outdoor track, while Jakib ran cross country and competed in both tracks.

South’s additional honorees

South also honored 21 12-season career senior athletes They included:

Jaimee Conmy, Catherine Covert, James Deichmann, Hailey Dion, Alexandria Elliot, Zach Gauthier, Caden Hedquist, Olivia Kingston, Elizabeth Kopicko, Kelsie Leith, Coby Martel, Kirsten McIntire, Bailey Martin, Kyle O’Connor, Sarah Picard, Kyle Salemi, Madison Sewade, Sarah Signorello, Jacob Smith, Lia Whitesel, and Dante Young.

Meanwhile, awards were delivered to 25 Nashua North 12-season senior athletes. They were as follows:

Brooke Bakhit, Paige Brooks, Abby Coy, Rory Curran, Hannah Gaffny, Dominick Gentry, Tyler Griffin, Courtney Gunter, Ryan Haney, Matt Harger, Yassine Jakib, Lillyann Jin, Sarah Kelley, Amanda Kime, Ellie Klayton, Cameron Lee, Joshua Lentz, James Maddock, Aidan McGrath, Laruen Oliver, Nicole Perault, Alexander Sheran, Madelaine Simpson, Caroline Sweet, and Noah Weiss.

In posting the award winners on the Nashua Athletics twitter account, the message “We are sorry your final season was not played and wish you the best in the future” accompanied the lists.

Coy has had a good week, as she recently signed her National Letter of Intent to attend and compete for Division I High Point University. …

Another longtime coach in the state has stepped down recently. Spaulding High School boys basketball coach Tim Cronin announced his retirement earlier this month.
