Telegraph file photo by TOM KING Bishop Guertin back Ethan Holt is one of 11 local players that are Joe Yukica Football Chapter Scholar Athletes.

Tuesday was supposed to be their night.

Instead, they’ll have a lot of days and nights, virtually, for the foreseeable future on the Joe Yukica New Hampshire Chapter of the National Football Foundation website.

Eleven local football players were recently named Joe Yukica Scholar Athletes and were to be honored at the Chapter’s annual banquet Tuesday night in Manchester. However, that event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In all there were 39 Scholar Athletes who were scheduled to be recognized.

Instead, profiles of the players, all seniors, are being posted from time to time on the Yukica website.

The area is well-represented. Nashua South scholar athletes included linebacker Kyle O’Connor and center Braden McDonnell. Bishop Guertin players honored are linebacker-running back Ethan Holt, running back-defensive back Joey Lupo, and quarterback Hayden Moses.

Merrimack players named Yukica Scholar Atheltes are tight end-defensive end Jared Dyer, receiver-defensive back Devin Wood and running back Zach Twardosky.

Campbell tight end-linebacker Carter Vedrani was named a Scholar Athlete, and Milford honorees include offensive lineman Samson Hodges and quarterback Gavin Urda.

Many of the players honored are scheduled to be playing on August 1 in either the CHaD East-West All-Star Game at Saint Anselm College or for the New Hampshire Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl team vs. Vermont at Castleton University.

The athletes were chosen in each chapter by a committee of administrators, coaches, and local businessmen. Selection is based on, but not limited to,academic achievement, athletic accomplishments and community leadership.
