College offers keep coming for North standout Harris

Telegraph file photo by TOM KING Nashua North quarterback-defensive back Curtis Harris now has four college offers on the table, the latest coming from Fordham University.

The college offers keep coming in for Nashua High School North football standout Curtis Harris.

Harris, currently a junior, acknowledged one day ago on social media his fourth college offer, this one from Fordham University.

“Grateful to receive my fourth offer from @FordhamFootball,” he posted. “Thank you to my teammates for helping me get here.”

Harris, who played quarterback and safety for the Titans last season, would be the second Nashua player at Fordham should he choose to go there. Former Nashua South quarterback Sean Holland will be entering his junior season in the fall at Fordham, where he’s played sparingly in his first two seasons.

Harris has received three other offers. Earlier this month, he received an offer from Central Connecticut State University, located in New Britain, Conn. But he also received two other offers last fall, one from the University of New Hampshire in November and his first in mid-October from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

Nashua North football coach Dante Laurendi doesn’t feel any decision will be made until sometime in the fall, with the pandemic being a factor.

“That would be my guess,” he said. “All the colleges are in the same boat (with the pandemic). It will just depend on what the fall brings.

“The positive thing is he has solid offers right now. Compared to other kids when senior year starts, he’s in a pretty good position.”

Laurendi said other schools, including Wagner, have shown strong interest.

“But the biggest question for me is, will he get some offers from some of the bigger schools?” Laurendi said.

A lot of athletes get seen with invites to spring practices, and some summer camps. Laurendi said Boston College invited Harris to spring practice, but of course that was cut short after five practices due to the pandemic.

Last fall Harris suffered a season-ending knee injury in the next to last regular season game vs. Merrimack, but that hasn’t stopped any interest. He proved he was all the way back healthy as he played the entire basketball season with no problem until the pandemic forced the cancellation of the Division I tournament with North set to face Merrimack in the quarterfinals.

He obviously is visible as the Titans quarterback as this past season he ran for 1,436 yards and 21 touchdowns in just seven games. He also threw for 377 yards and four touchdowns.

But Harris also makes quite an impression on the defensive side of the ball. Playing in the secondary, often at safety where he is known as a hard hitter, Harris had 58 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

In fact, Excel New England has Harris rated as one of the top 20 high school-prep safeties in the region.
