By Marc Breton - | Feb 8, 2020

Girls Basketball

Bishop Guertin 63,

Merrimack 23

The Cardinals move to 13-0 behind Erin Carney’s game high 19 points.

The Tomahawks suffer their first loss of the season moving to 12-1.

Guertin showed that it is just as tough on defense as it is on offense.

“We preach to our kids that our success starts and finishes with how we defend,” said coach Brad Kreick.

“The kids were extremely committed on that side of the ball, and tonight was our best overall defensive effort of the year.”

Addison Smith chipped in 13 points (nine in first half) and Bri Wilcox had 12 (eight in first half).

The Cardinals broke to a 7-0 lead that grew to 24-6 after one quarter and exppanded to 37-13 at halftime.

Guertin visits Manchester Central on February 13 and Merrimack hosts Bedford on Tuesday.

Boys Basketball

Alvirne 64, Trinity 49

The Broncos (4-6) take a dominant home win against Trinity on Friday night.

Jack Dewitt poured in 22 points and Liam O’Neil added 14.

Alvirne should have its hands full when it visits Salem on Tuesday.

Hopkinton 57, Campbell 54

The Cougars lose a tough one towards the end to a 10-3 Hopkinton team.

Campbell led by six entering the fourth quarter but could not hold on.

Now an even 6-6, Campbell next visits Raymond on Tuesday.

Bishop Guertin 42,

Merrimack 37 (OT)

It may not have had the luster of a pair of undefeateds, like the girls, but this one had all the thrills.

The Cardinals move to 9-2 with the hard-fought home win, while Merrimack is 8-3.
