NASHUA – Nashua North hosted the latest chapter in the Battle of the Bridge on Wednesday night, but Nashua South took home the spoils, as the Panthers outwrestled the Titans by a score of 51-21.

Although North’s Matt Oliver opened up the contest with a pin at the 106-pound class, South took victories in the next four matches, denying the Titans another pin until Tyler Griffin took down Colby Vancelette at 195 pounds.

North didn’t get any other pins on the night, although Dominick Gentry came close at 160 pounds.

While he still managed to earn a 5-2 decision for the Titans, Edinel Reyes-Adorno staved off collapse in the second period in a moment of perseverance. Even in defeat, the tenacity displayed in that matchup exemplified a quality evening of wrestling for the Panthers.

“First-year wrestler, Eddy’s our little dark horse,” said South coach Adam Langlois. “He definitely does what he needs to do at his position.”

North’s other points came off an 8-5 decision from Andrew Tate at 138 pounds, and an 8-6 victory at 182 pounds by Spencer Whiting.

South’s pins came from Ryan Salemi (113), Colby Spencer (120), Kyle Salemi (126), Ruben Le (132), Drew Fleury (145), Zachary Gauthier (152), Connor Goodwin (195) and Nathan Zalzal (220). Kyle O’Connor finished the night with a 3-0 win in the heavyweight bracket.

While Gate City bragging rights in any sport are notable for any coach at either school, Langlois was happiest about seeing his squad’s rival boast a full roster on Wednesday night, which served as a symbol of the sport’s health in Nashua overall.

“I’ve been in Nashua for 12 years now and it’s much better to have full teams rather than get forfeits,” he said. “The rivalry is going to be there so it’s good and fitting to have full matches.”
