Dewar, Ostrom, Gora win Capital Classic titles

Capital City Classic

Four local teams made their way up to Concord to compete in the 25 team Capital City Classic. Merrimack had the most success picking up two wins with Anson Dewar (152) and Griffin Ostrom (220). Gabriel Victal received fourth at 170 and Sid Dhanaraj placed sixth at 182. Kyle Gora took a win at 170 and Kyle Clark was fifth at 126, representing Alvirne. Souhegan’s Aidan Wilson was good enough for a fifth place finish (170) and Victor Ceballos took sixth at 138. Teddy Moscatelli finished fifth at 145 for Hollis Brookline.

 

Campbell

The Cougars go 2-1 on the day defeating Spaulding 36-12 and Memorial 24-0, while falling to Kearsarge 35-18. Justin Gandia, Chris Corbett, Brett McIernerny and Devin Dube wrestled well in the meet. Campbell faces White Mountains on Wednesday.

 

Bishop Guertin

The Cardinals defeated Mascoma Valley 41-12 and John Stark 22-6. Calvin Jozokos (126) and James Murphy (152) each won two matches in the meet. Taking one win each was Connor MacDonald (132), Steve Bouchard (138), Matt Frechette (160), Charlie Bellavance (195) and Nick Connerty (285).

 

Methuen Tournament

Nashua South

The Panthers finished a solid sixth out of 20 teams at the Methuen Tournament. Colby Spencer (113) and Nate Zalzal (220) picked up third place finishes. Ruben Le placed fourth at 126, Zach Gauthier (145) and Kyle O’Connor (285) each finished in fifth, while Colby Vancelette (195) placed sixth.

 

Boys Hockey

Salem 3, Merrimack 1

The Blue Devils snapped the Tomahawks (7-2) seven game winning streak. Dom Carozza scored the lone goal for the locals. Merrimack hosts Alvirne-Milford on Wednesday.

 

Trinity 2, Bishop Guertin 1

The Caridinals drop to 8-3 after a strong battle with Trinity at home. Christian Milward scored one goal on an assist from Mike Schaaf. Guertin hosts Malden Catholic on Monday.

 

Girls Hockey

Bishop Guertin 7, Bishop Brady 3

Brooke Yabroudy connects on a hat trick to lead the Cardinals (3-6) in their win. Julie McLaughlin found the back of the net twice; Lindsey Hult and Brianna DeFelice scored one each. Guertin visits Hanover on Tuesday.

 

Swimming

Bishop Guertin

The Cardinals boys’ team took seven wins in the nine team meet. Taking individual victories were Matthew Crane (200 free, 500 free), Jack Januario (200 IM, 100 free) and Eamon Griffin (100 back). Januario, Connor Donoghue, Ivan Dodor and Griffin won the 200 medley. The team of Brenden Dion, Griffin, Dodor and Crane won the 200 free relay. Januario, Dion Donoghue and Crane took the win in the 400 free relay.

 

Milford

Andrew Bartolomucci doubled up by winning the 200 free and 100 fly for the Spartans at UNH. Noah McCandless was runner up in the 50 and 100 free, while Cam Mitchell took third in the 100 breaststroke. The team of Bartlolomucci, Mitchell, Josh Anderson and Noah McCandless were second in the 200 medley relay.For the girls, Lily Chappell was fourth in the 200 IM and third in the 100 freestyle and Calista Chappell was fourth in the 500 freestyle.
