TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass.–There’s no question now the Concord High School boys hockey team is the one to beat in Division I.

No, not after Wednesday night’s 5-1 win over Bishop Guertin at Skate 3 Arena, which boosted the Tide to 10-0 and dropped the Cards to 7-2, snapping their seven game winning streak.

“They are the team to beat,” Guertin coach Gary Bishop said. “They outworked us from the opening faceoff to the end.”

The Tide sent a message right away when Tyler Coskren blasted one by BG goalie Chris Sullivan just 13 seconds in.

“You score 13 seconds in, on the road, it really gave us a boost, definitely,”Tide coach Duncan Walsh said.

Concord made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 4:47 by Noah Drew, assisted by Coskren and Zach Drew.

Concord made it 3-0 just two minutes into the third on a blue line blast by Colin O’Brien, assisted by Coskren and Drew.

However, that goal seemed to wake up the Cards, who finally put sustained pressure on Tide netminder Parker Taylor. That resulted in a goal by BG’s Mike Kiely, off a nice pass from Sean Kelley at 4:50 of the second.

Coskren scored his second goal on the power play at 7:21 of the third to make it a 4-1 game.

Concord’s Brooks Craigue added a goal with 25 seconds left.

“We’re a totally different team than we’ve been the last few years as far as the skill level is concerned,” Walsh said. “We’ve got skilled players.”

And the Tide took advantage with two power play goals.

“Their power play worked and ours didn’t,” Bishop said. “If we had scored a couple of times on the power play, it might have been a different game.”
