Panthers stay unbeaten; BG boys tie Goffstown

Excitement was the word for much of Monday’s local high school action.

The Nashua South girls volleyball team rallied for a five set win over Bedford to stay unbeaten; Bishop Guertin and Goffstown played to a thrilling boys soccer tie, and the Hollis Brookline girls soccer team survived a late Pembroke flurry to win.

Here’s the rundown on Monday’s action:

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 3,

BEDFORD 2

The visiting Panthers used an 8-0 run to force a fifth set, 25-18, and then captured the match 15-8 in the final set to stay unbeaten at 16-0 and avenge last year’s semifinal loss.

After the Panthers won the first set 25-13, Bedford (9-7) took the next two by identical 25-22 scores.

South visits Exeter on Wednesday.

CAMPBELL 3,

TRINITY 0

The Cougars improved to 9-5 in Division III with a 25-6, 25-9, 25-17 sweep. They were paced by Lauren Dionne’s eight aces and Caedran Sullivan’s five kills. Tori Allen (four kills) and Loly Brown (five aces) also played well.

Campbell is at Portsmouth Christian on Wednesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 5,

SPAULDING 0

The visiting Cardinals (12-2) got two goals each from Caitlyn Toom and Brooke Paquette, while Sydney Driscoll added a single goal.

Toom, Hannah Lord, Grace Mahoney and Molly Finn all had assists. Guertin visits Goffstown today.

CAMPBELL 1,

RAYMOND 0

Morgan Wagner had the lone goal for the Cougars, who had a solid all-around effort in improving to 13-2 in Division III. Campbell closes out the regular season Thursday at St. Thomas.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 1,

PEMBROKE 0

Tasha White scored the key Divison II game’s lone goal, assisted by Teresa DeMaio who had a nice thread pass, 36 minutes in to move the Cavs to 11-1-2. Pembroke fell to 12-2.

Christina Balsamo had 11 saves in goal, including a game-saver in traffic as time expired. She got defensive help from Nicole Heiter, Amanda Robbins, Abbie Ogren and Paige Mello, while Paisley Broadhurst and DeMaio also played well.

BOYS SOCCER

BISHOP GUERTIN 2,

GOFFSTOWN 2 (2 OT)

Grevaan Singh scored a goal and set up Colin McCarthy for the game tying goal in the 77th minute as the Cards moved to 3-9-2.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Cards made a formation adjustment,leading to a Singh goal that tied it. They fell behind again to the Grizzlies three minutes later before their late game heroics.

Zach Warren played well defensively at sweeper back for the Cards, who close out their season Thursday at 5 p.m. at Stellos vs. Nashua South.

It was the sixth tie of the season for Goffstown, now 4-4-6.

SUNAPEE 3,

WILTON-LYNDEBOROUGH 1

Freshman Kenny Begley scored a goal to help celebrate his birthday, set up by a Jack Schwab pass, but that was it for the injury-riddled Warriors as they fell to 1-4.Sunapee ended its regular season as one of Division IV’s top teams at 14-2.

Troy Brennan, Dylan Pfeil and Ethan Smith played excellent defense along with Sam Townsend.

WLC wraps up the regular season at home vs. Newmarket on Thursday.
