Tomahawks go-to players go past Spaulding, 33-28

By Tom King - Staff Writer | Sep 7, 2019

The Merrimack High School football team survived a wild third quarter in Rochester to capture its season opener, 33-28 over Spaulding and the Tomahawks’ key players all played key roles.

Devin Wood had two receiving TDs, while back Zach Twardosky had two rushing TDs. Also, Jared Dyer had a passing and a rushing score.

Merrimack was down 7-0 but went into halftime up 14-7. The Tomahawks took advantage of a Red Raider fumble on the opening drive of the second half to go up 21-7, but the hosts answered with a kickoff return for a TD to get back to within seven.

“The start of the third quarter was crazy,” Merrimack coach Kip Jackson said.

However, Merrimack held on and will have its home opener next Friday night vs. Dover at 6:30 p.m.
