Suaza heating up for Nashua South girls soccer

Staff file photo by TOM KING Nashua South midfielder Angie Suaza is on fire, with seven goals in her last three games, including three in a 3-1 win over Windham on Wednesday.

Here are the hightlights of Wednesday’s high school action around the area:

GIRLS SOCCER

Nashua South 3,

Windham 1

Red-hot Angie Suaza had three goals, giving her seven in the last three games as the Panthers vaulted over the .500 mark at 5-4-1. South got solid defense from Maya Rioux and good midfield play from Julianna Martin.

Corita Chartier, Hannah Swain, and Camille Michon also played well. South visits Bedford on Friday.

Manchester Central 9,

Nashua North 1

The Titans (3-7) became the Little Green’s seventh victim (7-2), managing only an Emilee Deleo goal. North hosts Exeter on Friday.

Alvirne 10

Spaulding 0

Ten different players scored for the 3-7-1 Broncos, who snapped a six-game winless streak:Emily Lizotte, Abbie Dubois, Ashley Lecomte, Jane Ostberg,  Kelly McDermott, Tori Gush, Rose Boudreau, Hannah Loverdi, Maddie Bertrand and Amy Steed.

Goalkeeping duties were shared by Brittney Whiting and Lilly Sullivan.

Exeter 3,

Merrimack 1

The Tomahawks fell to 6-4-1 as they could only muster a goal by Riley Streeper, assisted by Abby Morgan.

BOYS SOCCER

Bishop Guertin 5,

Spaulding 3

The visiting Cardinals got three goals from Sean Kelly, plus single tallies by John Handy and Colin McCarthy to improve to 4-4-1. Connor Silloway and goalie Michael Poublon also played well for Guertin, which hosts Pinkerton on Friday.

Winnacunnet 2,

Merrimack 0

The Tomahawks (3-8) held the Warriors off until the 60 minute mark, and gave up another late goal. They host Spaulding on Friday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Nashua South 3,

Goffstown 0

The 12-0 Panthers needed just three sets (25-23, 25-10, 25-21) thanks in part to their service game, led by Catherine Covert’s season-high seven acs. Cara Lecklider also contributed five aces and 14 service points. South hosts Bedford Thursday.

Dover 3,

Nashua North 0

The Titans dropped to 6-7 after a tough 25-14, 25-21, 25-22 loss. Meg Valcourt had three aces, nine assists and four digs, while others who played well included Sarah St. Pierre (five kills, two blocks) and Atlanta Ho (seven digs, two kills).

Spaulding 3,

Bishop Guertin 0

The Cards (10-2) saw their nine game winning streak snapped after a 27-25, 25-21, 25-18 sweep. Paola Matos had 27 digs while other key BG players were Libby Knapp (two aces, four kills, 23 digs), Julia Pascucci (six kills, 15 assists, 12 digs) and Rita Dow (nine kills, two aces).

Guertin hosts Pinkerton on Friday.

Hollis Brookline 3,

Timberlane 1

The visting Cavaliers took the final two sets 25-13, 25-19, after splitting the first two 25-11, 23-25 to stay unbeaten (13-0).

Maddie Norris led the way with 20 kills, seven aces and 14 digs while Kaleigh Whalen added 11 kills, four aces, two blocks and 14 digs. Other keys were Elizabeth Atkinson (nine kills, two blocks), Kyra Belden (32 assists, four kills, three aces), Sammie Sheppard (nine digs), and Ellie Jordan (nine digs).

The Cavs host Winnacunnet on Friday for the Kendall Van Schoick Memorial Scholarship Night.

Merrimack 0

The visiting Tomahawks fell to 4-9 after three tough sets of 25-18, 25-20, 25-12.

Joanne Bonner had nine kills and 10 digs while Anna Niezrecki had 14 digs.

Merrimack hosts Spaulding on Friday.

FIELD HOCKEY

Merrimack 2,

Salem 0

Merrimack (10-2-1) extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with second half goals by Chloe Kapsambelis (Ellie Boucher assist) and Hunter Webb (assisted by Julia Valuzzi). Heather Rohr had six saves for the ‘Hawks, who are idle until their final regualar season game Friday, Oct. 12 at home vs. Windham.
