Report: Brady may announce his retirement next week

The GOAT may have thrown his last pass after all.
According to a CBS Sports report on Friday night, Tom Brady is leaning toward retirement, and an announcement could be coming in the next few days.
CBS sports reporter Jason La Confora’s story posted last night said “Numerous sources close to Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady remain convinced that the all-time great is preparing to retire from the game.”
Any announcement is likely to come next week. Also, it was reported in the Boston Globe earlier this week that he’s due $15 million as part of his deferred signing bonus with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Friday, Feb. 4. He forfeits that money if he retires, so the timing in the CBS report fits.
Also, La Confara wrote that “Making an announcement the week leading up to the Super Bowl would not be his style, and waiting until after the Super Bowl, with the scouting combine then just weeks away, might begin to cut into the Buccaneers’ ability to pivot as an organization and readjust their plans for 2022.”
The CBS report also says that the feeling in the Buccaneers organization is that Brady will retire. Brady, 44, has been less confident about returning in his public remarks after his team’s season ended in the NFC Divisional Round last Sunday. On his “Let’s Go!” podcast he said “The biggest difference now that I’m older is I have kids now too, you know, and I care about them a lot as well…
“The team doesn’t deserve anything less than my best. And if I feel like I’m not committed to that, or I can’t play at a championship level, then you gotta give someone else a chance to play. And you know, we’ll see.”
If Brady played the last game of an unprecedented career, he ended with one of his toughest losses after a stunning comeback.
Bloodied and battered by the Los Angeles Rams, the 44-year-old seven-time Super Bowl champion rallied the Buccaneers back from a 27-3 deficit, only to see the defense surrender a big play in the final minute to set up Matt Gay’s winning 30-yard field goal.
According to the CBS report, those in Brady’s inner circle felt he had made up his mind that this playoff run would be his last, no matter the outcome.
