The Boston Celtics are, according to an ESPN report, finalizing a deal for current Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka as their new head coach.
Udoka replaces the man who hired him, Brad Stevens, who ascended to the general manager’s role after Danny Ainge recently resigned.
Udoka, 43, is a former assistant with the Spurs and Sixers in addition to his current role with the Nets. He became officially available following Brooklyn’s playoff defeat in seven games at the hands of the Milwaukee Bucks.
He also played for the Nigerian national team.
Udoka is said to have support from key Celtics players, especially Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart, who played under him when he was coaching Team USA in the World Championships.
