Patriots cancel Friday practice due to positive COVID test
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots abruptly cancelled practice today as well as player media availability today, and reports say it was due to another positive COVID-19 test.
Reports also say that there may be a second positive test that the team is waiting to confirm.
However, according to ESPN, Sunday’s 1 p.m. game vs. the Denver Broncos at Gillette Stadium is on as scheduled, as are all other games, the NFL said. But of course, that could change. But ESPN also reported the Denver Broncos have been told by the NFL to prepare to play, and no contingency plans have been discussed as of yet.
Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore and quarterback Cam Newton, both of whom had tested positive in the last two weeks, returned to practice on Thursday after going through the proper protocols.
Defensive lineman Byron Cowart and practice squad defensive lineman also reportedly tested positive recently. In the last 10 days, the Patriots have practiced twice — last Saturday and Thursday.
