Six New England Patriots, including four potential startes, have decided to opt-out of playing in the 2020 NFL season, according to multiple reports. The list is headed by Pro Bowl linebacker Dont’a Hightower and key veteran strong safety Patrick Chung.

The other Patriot pandemic-related opt-outs – allowed as per agreement between the NFL and the NFL Players Association – so far are starting offensive right tackle Marcus Cannon, fullback Danny Vitale, running back/special teamer Brandon Bolden, and offensive lineman Najee Toran.

Hightower just became a father two weeks ago, and told the NFL Network this morning “Me and my fiancee are just more concerned with the health of our family than football.”
