Brady, Patriots have unfamiliar feeling after loss

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady hasn’t experienced this for a while.
He was the losing quarterback in a game that would have earned the Patriots a first round bye. But Sunday’s Miami Dolphins’ 27-24 victory in the final minute knocks the Patriots into Wild Card Weekend, when they will host the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night.
“I think we’ve got to think about trying to win one game and not think about many things other than that,” Brady said after a game in which he threw a pick six to go with two touchdowns. “So, we didn’t play the way we were capable. We got beat, and now we’ve got to play next week and we’ve got to play a lot better next week. … It was a great chance for us to not play next week. So, we didn’t take advantage of it.”
Brady, who has had a sore elbow in past weeks, said he had no physical issues on Sunday.
“Good,” he said when asked how he felt physically. “Yeah, I feel good. I have no problems. So yeah, no problems.”
Except with how Sunday’s game turned out.
“You know, I could always do things better,” he said. “So I don’t think there’s any one particular thing other than obviously I hate turning the ball over, but I just don’t think we did a good enough job. I certainly didn’t do a good enough job. We’ve got to do better next week.”

Miami defensive back Eric Rowe was thrilled, as one would expect, with his pick six of Brady in the first half.
Remember, he used to be a Patriot.
“I was just so happy in my head after I scored,” he said. “I was like, ‘Man, this is the stadium I used to play in’ and I get a pick six and to make it better now a win, that means everything.”

The Dolphins went 5-4 after an 0-7 start, and they were happy to get the win for their first-year head coach, former Patriots defensive assistant Brian Flores.
“I think it meant a lot to him,” Rowe said. “Not only because it is New England, but just as a first-year head coach with a lot of turnover of the team. We as a tea are trying to reflect his coaching style of toughness, mental toughness, consistency and ust keep playing strong no matter what happens throughout the season.”
Flores wouldn’t deny this was a special win.
“Look, there are a lot of memories here,” he said. “I basically grew up in this building, from a professional standpoint…so there are guys on that team, guys on the coaching staff, there are people in this building from janitors to security people, media, that I built a lot of relationships with.
“It’s great to win, but it’s not about me, really. It’s more about those players in there, they work extremely hard. … I’m just happy for them, that they won that game.”
How did the Dolphins turn their season around to finish 5-11 after going winless the first seven weeks? Flores said that the players ultimately began to buy into “the process.”
“I think they just started to believe in it,” he said. “And when you string good practices, good days, you string them together, good results come. And that’s what you’ve seen in the last nine, 10, 12 weeks.”
