High gas prices, high food prices, inflation most important issues

By DI LOTHROP - Guest Columnist | Aug 6, 2022

It appears that I struck a chord with my previous guest column about Cassidy Hutchinson and her January 6 Committee appearance prompting three readers (Sunday, July 31) to attack me, armed to the teeth with their inconsequential liberal talking points. Boy, were they mad!

Joe O’Neill is obviously still stinging from my rebuttal to his LTE claiming that Republicans are do-nothing bad guys who will blame Joe Biden for high gas prices and inflation just to get elected in the mid-term elections. He mistakenly stated that Democrats don’t currently control Congress (they do) and that the US is energy independent, among other claims. In my subsequent guest column, I pointed out irrefutable evidential facts that each of his opinions were incorrect.

Joe continues to claim I made misstatements in my column about Hutchinson. Without enlightenment. I merely pointed out that Hutchinson’s recollections to the J6 committee were office gossip, snippets of conversations, and hearsay rendering her testimony as non-credible. Was this an insinuation that I fibbed or was this an obfuscation on Joe’s part?

No matter how many times Joe claims I “misconstrued facts” just doesn’t cut it because they are all public record. It’s inconvenient sometimes but that is the cross both sides of the aisle must bear in today’s electronic data age. The truth is out there for everyone to see.

Then we move on to Ray Guarino’s letter. I don’t need to be an expert on what goes on in “Trump’s White House” but I do know that the structure of the office environment within the White House is no different from one administration to the next. And, it’s none of your business, Ray, if I have ever set foot in the White House.

What was so irrelevant about your letter was you making the assumption that Hutchinson is loyal to the Constitution but I am loyal only to President Trump. What a truly stupid statement; I am sorry to say.

For all I know, Ms. Hutchinson doesn’t know the Constitution from a hole in the wall. I, on the other hand, carry the Constitution with me wherever I go. That is how much I believe and love my country. Your ignorance in displaying the Republican Party as a cult of loyalists only to Trump and not to the Republic of the United States is beyond comprehension.

Finally, the guest column by Jean Lewandowski in the same paper was a painful and prolonged discourse of confusing and inconsequential speech. The column was full of inconsistencies and attacks against me. Ms. Lewandowski claims I attacked the J6 committee and especially the two Republicans who serve on the committee. However, what I said was they were hand-picked by Nancy Pelosi because of their hatred of Trump. This is a fact. Both Cheney and Kinsinger have acknowledged on public record that they are anti-Trump. Then Ms. Lewandowski goes on to say that “my defense of those who refused to serve” is circular. Huh?

No other Republicans were allowed to serve on the committee per Nancy Pelosi’s orders. Thereby making this committee a sham. A one-sided sham. With no representation of the opposite side.

She goes on to say that the J6 Hearings represent opposite visions of America. One is chaotic and violent. The other (she likens school board meetings to the J6 committee) where the atmosphere is serene and full of public servants who are motivated not by money or applause, but respect for public institutions and the common good. Well, Jean, I too have attended school board meetings and other governing body meetings and I sure haven’t seen much respect for parents and taxpayers at those meetings.

Ms. Lewandowski’s inevitable name-calling attacks are not pretty. Calling Trump “co-conspirators” like Bannon and Giuliani “career grifters”. Then comes the “Trump Gang” and Trump supporters being empty and full of “Trumpism.” Not very subtle or kind.

Lastly, instead of trying to complain about a former President, my three criticizer/opponents named above should concentrate on the current occupier of the White House and his failed policies.

High gas prices. High food prices. Inflation rate rising to 9.1%, the highest in decades, resulting in a recession. Border security. Biden’s polling numbers plummeting daily. Biden’s failure, weakness and chaos in his administration, and his ineptitude has put the republic itself in danger.

All of these should be the most important issues for Joe, Ray and Jean. And for ALL citizens.
