During a congressional hearing a few weeks ago with Erin Collins, the head of the IRS’s Taxpayer Advocate service, U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan raised many valid points about the utter failure, in my opinion, of the IRS to meet its current obligations. From hours-long wait times to months-delayed processing times, Sen. Hassan highlighted core responsibilities and how the IRS has dropped the ball.

After reading Adria Bagshaw’s letter in The Telegraph and hearing Sen. Hassan’s points about current IRS struggles, the last thing the American taxpayers need is to give the IRS any additional responsibilities.

As a financial professional, I know how important it is for my clients to get their tax returns processed in a timely fashion. For businesses, there are an excessive number of important decisions that need to be made by the IRS that will have long-lasting impacts on how a business functions. If people can’t even get through to talk with an IRS representative, it’s hard to have confidence in the IRS to perform any of its current tasks let alone take on more.

Sen. Hassan has done a great job raising the red flag and speaking up for Granite Staters who have struggled to work with the IRS. I urge our good Senator to continue advocating for us and against additional IRS responsibilities.
