Hockey at Fenway Park?

Holman Stadium hosted hockey long before anyone thought of outfitting Fenway with a rink.

DEC. 26, 1951 – “A reorganized Nashua hockey club has joined in a New England Amateur Hockey Association approved six-team league composed of Suncook, Wolfeboro, Rye, Dover, Laconia and Nashua. The first game for the Nashuans in the newly organized ice loop is scheduled for Dec. 30 at Laconia.

“Snow over the holiday may throw a monkey wrench into coach Tony Joyal’s preparations for the Sabbath day opener. With one rugged practice session practice session already under his squad’s belt, Coach Tony planned daily drills this week one excellent ice, but the most recent storm will postpone these a couple days. The Royals’ schedule calls for weekend games under the lights both at home and away. Home games will be played under the stadium’s arc light.”

DEC. 27, 1961 – “Visibly shaken as they entered their baptism by fire in the Class L ranks, Nashua High’s courtmen suffered a crushing 76-43 defeat at the hands off Memorial High at Manchester last night.

At 6-foot-1, Burns towers over the 5-7 Cournoyer, and was able to lead his team into the finals of the tournament with a 52-48 victory.

“We’re really good friends,” Burns said. “We’re just talking out there, having a good time, but he gets in your face and you can’t get around him.”

Burns (eight rebounds) did manage to get around him at least a few times, leading to his team-high 15 points.”

DEC. 30, 2006 – “Bishop Guertin won its second shootout in as many nights Friday, this time winning the Mount St. Charles (R.I.) Tournament championship match against Fairfield (Conn.) Prep.

“Eric Harries scored during the first
