Use funds as intended

By Sen. Kevin Avard - Nashua | Dec 17, 2022

With 2022 quickly coming to a close, I am very pleased with the important financial relief I helped deliver to our families in District 12.

Over the past two years, our New Hampshire Senate sent over $13.7 million dollars back to Nashua taxpayers. That includes a $2 million annual increase in Rooms and Meals revenue, more than $3 million for roads and bridges, and an additional $2.8 million for Nashua schools. I am proud to have helped facilitate that process, especially during a time when many are feeling immense financial pressure.

For this reason, I was disappointed to receive dozens of constituent calls expressing alarm at their recent property tax bill. Despite our best efforts in the New Hampshire Senate, the city of Nashua is burdening families with financial pressure instead of providing them with financial relief. This practice is not only unsustainable for the city itself, but even more so for the community that calls it home.

I urge city leadership to provide financial relief to where it’s intended, and undoubtedly most needed – back to Granite State families.
