ANOTHER ‘big lie’

By Sally Hatch - Concord | Oct 22, 2022

For many years I’ve heard and believed that the Republicans are better at managing the economy than the Democrats. I believed it because people I spoke with believed it. As I grew more informed, I realized this was not the case at all. We need to expose this other “big lie.”

The five recessions we’ve experienced since 1980 have all been under Republican presidents: Reagan (1981-2), George H.W. Bush (1990-91), George W. Bush (2007-2009; inherited by Obama in 2008) and the 2020 recession, which happened under Trump.

This track record of recent history gives a completely different picture of a long-standing belief. There is no reason to swallow the myth that Republicans handle the economy better than the Democratic Party. Cutting taxes for the wealthy, weakening the social safety net (threatening to kill social security!), and defunding the Public School system, does nothing but weaken our economy. Redirecting funds to support the goals of the upper class and corporations, does nothing but fill their coffers, demoralize the country and enhance our divisions.

Why would we vote for this myth? By doing so, we are simply hurting ourselves.
