Your vote can help

By Jeannette Marinow - Nashua | Sep 10, 2022

This is an open letter to the Nashua area Legislators asking for your help.

I know that Primary Day (Sept. 13) is obviously an important day for you, but please do not forget another important day: Sept. 15 is Veto Override Day, starting at 1 p.m. in the State Capitol.

Gov. Chris Sununu vetoed eight bills, and I ask you to vote yes to override his veto of HB 1454. It’s a simple bill, modeled on an existing law in Maine that is working well. HB 1454 will help ensure that any new landfills built in NH will be built in locations that minimize the risk of contamination of our state’s lakes and rivers and drinking water supplies from PFAS and other toxic chemicals.

HB 1454 passed in both the House and Senate on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis. Gov. Sununu decided to veto this worthwhile bill. He passed up an opportunity to sign into law a bill that will cost the state and taxpayers nothing, will help protect NH’s tourist economy, and most importantly will help prevent additional communities from suffering from PFAS contamination. Since the Governor’s veto, more and more information regarding PFAS contamination has been reported in NH and nationwide, including the EPA designating two PFAS substances hazardous under the Superfund Act.

With your vote on Sept. 15, you have a chance to help prevent a PFAS contamination disaster here in NH. You can help make sure it doesn’t happen on your watch and doesn’t happen to your constituents here in the Nashua area.

Please join the thousands of residents from all over the state that support HB 1454. Voters want their Legislators to support bills that help ensure the health and quality of life for all of the people of NH, and reject the self-interests of the solid waste industry trying to dominate our state’s legislative priorities. On September 15th you have a chance to stand up for the residents of NH.

Please vote yes to override the veto of HB 1454!
