Let’s get our carbon cash back!

By Katharine Gage - Windham | Jul 16, 2022

Two crises we are facing – increased gas prices and climate change – seem somewhat at odds in how they might be solved. The current increase in gas prices is decreasing our carbon emissions while hurting family budgets. But consider this: what if, instead of paying a fortune for gas and needing to sacrifice in other areas of your life to make up for it, you got a check each month that covered or even exceeded the increased gas costs, while clean energy alternatives became cheaper and carbon emissions got reduced rapidly to put the United States on a path to net zero by 2050?

It seems too good to be true, but cash-back carbon pricing can do just that, by placing a slowly but steadily increasing fee on fossil fuel production and distributing all of the money collected to households on an equal, per-capita basis every month. Towns across New Hampshire are voting on a New Hampshire Resolution to Take Action on Climate Pollution that calls on state leaders, Sen. Shaheen, Sen. Hassan, Rep. Kuster and Rep. Pappas to address climate change with cash-back carbon pricing. Please visit carboncashback.org to learn how you can put this resolution in your town election.
