Kids’ safety

By Faye O’Neill - Amherst | Jul 16, 2022

Per a recent news release from Concord, Gov. Chris Sununu said “Ensuring kids are safe in school has been a priority of this administration for years, and this latest $10 million investment into school safety reaffirms our commitment to keeping students safe in the classroom.” Really, Governor Sununu? Then I’m confused about the fact that you recently signed HB1178 into law. HB1178 is described as “prohibiting the state from enforcing any federal statute, regulation, or Presidential Executive Order that restricts or regulates the right of the people to keep and bear arms.” Hmm, so if any federal gun regulations are passed in an effort to ensure kids are safe in school, NH will absolutely not enforce them? Kids’ safety may be a priority for you, but apparently not as high a priority as guns. Another news release states that NH Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut is seeking additional federal money for the school safety program. Seeking federal money, but blocking federal statutes and regulations. Again, how high a priority is kids’ safety?
