Hassan is all in on women’s rights
Recently, I saw Sen. Maggie Hassan on Rachel Maddow’s show, discussing how her Republican Senate opponents recently came out in support of the Supreme Court’s draft decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. While I was appalled to hear that Chuck Morse, Kevin Smith, and Don Bolduc support ending Roe, ultimately making way for Republicans like Mitch McConnell to push a nationwide abortion ban if Republicans retake the Senate, I was proud to see Hassan going all-in on the fight to protect our reproductive rights.
While Hassan has been a fierce supporter of reproductive rights and ensuring a woman can make her own health care choices and decide her destiny, her opponent’s anti-choice records could not be more extreme. Chuck Morse pushed to institute the first abortion ban in modern New Hampshire history, which includes no exceptions for rape, incest, or fatal fetal anomaly and imposes a mandatory ultrasound requirement and felony penalties for doctors. Kevin Smith was a lobbyist for the anti-choice, far-right group Cornerstone Action, and advocated for making abortion illegal in New Hampshire and defunding Planned Parenthood. And Don Bolduc said New Hampshire’s abortion ban is “better than nothing” but complains it doesn’t go far enough, and openly calls for defunding Planned Parenthood.
The choice between Hassan and her Republican opponents could not be more clear. Hassan will fight to protect our right to safe and legal abortions. Her opponents would vote with Mitch McConnell and Washington Republicans to criminalize abortion and punish women for making their own reproductive health care choices.
