Bring back mandate

By Gary Braun - Nashua | Dec 25, 2021

Just when we thought the clown show at City Hall had finally ended, Mayor Donchess wants us to believe that he had no idea that the Nashua Police Commission was searching for a new police Chief for the City or that one had been hired without the Mayor’s knowledge. Who is the mayor really trying to fool? How does the chief executive of the City not know that the search for a new police Chief is underway? Mr. Donchess and his subordinates at 219 Main Street are either lying about what they knew and when they knew it when they spin such a story. Or they are and were completely asleep at the wheel if they’re actually telling the truth. This follows a process where the mayor, Alderwoman Klee and their supporters were completely out-maneuvered by the opponents of the police commission change. Whatever your position on the charter change proposal, every citizen of Nashua should be embarrassed by the amateurish antics and gross political incompetence evidenced by Donchess, Klee and their cohorts right from the start of that process.

Now, we see that Dr. Wolf and her colleagues on the Nashua Board of Health have borrowed a play from the Mayor’s “do nothing” handbook by refusing to make a timely decision on re-instituting a City-wide mask mandate. Personally, I think Nashua should have brought the mask mandate back weeks ago. But whether you agree with me or not, Wolf and the rest of the Board of Health have abdicated their responsibility to the residents of the City by refusing to make a prompt decision. What exactly is Dr. Wolf afraid of? Why would any competent health care professional hesitate to make such a decision? Instead, Wolf sits by doing nothing except twiddling her thumbs while the Covid rate soars. If Wolf can’t or won’t do her job, then the Mayor should remove her and the rest of the current members from the Board of Health and appoint folks who actually have the courage to do their jobs. But after watching the Mayor for these last number of years, I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath waiting for that to happen.
