‘Never give a sword to a man who can’t dance’

By Di Lothrop - Nashua | Nov 20, 2021

In response to Ray Guarino’s letter (November 14) in his clumsy and feckless attempt to attack me, I must set the poor man straight.

Mr. Guarino’s letter was either an attempt to showcase his vocabulary with his overuse of descriptors (shrill, incoherent, braggadocio, crowing, et al) or he simply is lost in his own confusion and partisanship.

In his response to my guest column (“Our Voices Will Be Heard,” November 7) he spoke about his obvious disdain for the Nashua Republican Party and its members. He talked about “the other team”. He happily pointed out the “opposition party’s “ wins in the city elections. He talked about GOP candidates’ and their “middle fingers”(whatever that means)!

And yet, he fully acknowledges that local elections are supposed to be non-partisan.

His diatribe was all about partisanship. All one has to do is go back and read my column. Nowhere did I mention Republicans or Democrats. Period. It’s the readers’ choice to see what they want to see. Mr. Guarino chose to read partisanship in my words. Does that show his partisanship? Absolutely and unequivocally. It doesn’t surprise me. During my numerous attendances at BOE meetings in Nashua, I saw his partisanship rear its ugly head in many distasteful showings of contempt for anyone who does not think like him.

I merely congratulated some candidates in my column. I thanked them for a job well done, and acknowledged that most of them were running for office for the first time and their efforts were very much appreciated whether they won or lost. In the interest of being fair and balanced, I identified myself first as a Nashua resident and taxpayer of 38 years and second as the vice chair of the Nashua Republican City Committee. To some, like Mr. Guarino, that was my “death blow”. However, what most people don’t realize is that the Nashua GOP supports Independents. A lot of our members and some candidates we supported are Independent.

One of the analects from the Chinese philosopher Confucius translates to. “Never give a sword to a man who can’t dance.”

You, Mr. Guarino have shown you are unable to dance with the truth. You said it is time for the adults in the room to lead. You, sir, are certainly not one of the adults in the room.
