Nashua politics needs more balance

By Mike Ortolano - Nashua | Oct 23, 2021

Abraham Lincoln (or some other smart person) once said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”

As Nashua voters, we need to make sure we are not being fooled all of the time. We need to recognize that the current Board of Alderman and nearly every elected board in Nashua is controlled by a complete super majority of Democrats.

The current makeup of the Board of Alderman includes 15 Democrats, zero Republicans and zero independents.

Nashua voters need to understand that it is in the interest of our community to have a voice for the other 66% of voters that categorize themselves as either undeclared/Independent (43%), or Republican (23%). And right now, the Democrats (at least the elected ones) aren’t interested in hearing from any of them, let alone working collaboratively with any of them.

If you want a chance to experience, in Nashua, “government of the people, by the people, and for the people” (Gettysburg Address, A. Lincoln), you need to get out and vote for the change candidates and inject some balance into our politics. These change candidates support fiscal responsibility, respect for citizen input, accountability, integrity, open communication, and open government.

Allowing Democrats to continue to dominate the political landscape in Nashua will result in lasting and painful impacts on the city budget and tax rate, the proper functioning of our infrastructure, the composition of the Police Commission, transparency in our local government, etc. But more importantly, it will reflect a continuation of government of the people, by the Democrats, for the Democrats.

I prefer what Lincoln said. Vote for change, a little balance goes a long way. A listing of the change candidates and their websites can be found at Good-gov.org.
