Woeful attempt?

By Tim Wyatt - Hudson | Oct 16, 2021

Past letters to the Editor by this writer have been more deeply researched and considered, but this one is pure response to the decision of the Telegraph to publish Dean Shalhoup’s article covering Indigenous People’s Day.  The article’s slightest reference to wrongs done by European settlers to the original inhabitants with no recognition of contributions by them further disrespected them by making mention of memorials to early settlers.  The two plaques identified in the article were discovered to be markers to identify crimes by those whose lands were stolen against the thieves who stole it.  The fact that these markers continue to stand is a stain on the city whose name was also stolen from the first people.  Here is an opportunity to make right in a very small way a great wrong by placing those markers out of public view and inviting Dean Shalhoup to correct his woeful attempt to pay respect.
