These bills are crucial

By Corinne Dodge - Derry | Aug 21, 2021

If yesterday, Aug. 18, was the 101st anniversary of the U.S. amendment which gave American women the right to vote, why, are black women still having to jump through hoops to vote in many states … waiting for hours and hours in voting lines, finding out at the last minute that voting wards have suddenly changed or that their names have been unjustly purged from the voting list?

And if New Hampshire businesses are desperate for skilled workers and trying to encourage well-educated college students to stay in NH and work in New Hampshire businesses, why is our NH State House now working so hard to pass laws to make it difficult for those New Hampshire college students to vote in New Hampshire where they now live?

Our government should be encouraging all eligible voters to vote, rather than discouraging and refusing voting rights to certain eligible groups of voters? This attack by state governments across our country and in New Hampshire on our civil rights is also an attack on our democracy. It is the reason we need passage of the “For the People Act” H.R.1 – 117th Congress (2021-2022): For the People Act of 2021 | Congress.gov | Library of Congress and the “John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act” which like the original Voting Rights Act, restores and creates procedural rules governing voting right violations. These two bills are crucial to protecting our democracy and the freedom to vote for all eligible U.S. voters.

Our U.S. Senators will be working on passage of these bills in the next few weeks. Please contact them ASAP to call for passage of these bills. Please do so now!
