Energy independence

By Alex Lowney - Nashua | Jul 31, 2021

There are many routes we can take to use Earth’s resources in a more conscientious manner. One path to consider is supporting President Biden’s American Jobs Plan. Our president has made it clear that the use of renewable energy is one of America’s priorities. The White House’s plan will offer significant funding to modernize our power infrastructure and explore clean energy development. Not only will this investment assist in protecting the environment, but it will create more jobs for the American people.

New Hampshire has the chance of a lifetime to transition into a green future while providing employment opportunities and economic stimulus to local communities. With many jobs lost and businesses foreclosed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our state needs economic opportunities more than ever.

It must be noted that New Hampshire and the surrounding New England region are heavily dependent upon fossil fuels — which results in extremely high energy costs. Investing in clean energy sources instead, such as wind, hydropower, and solar energy would be far cheaper and climate-conscious than our current reliance on fossil fuels. Exploring these cleaner energy sources would protect the pockets of New Hampshire residents and would leave us less dependent on big oil companies.
