Whose Budget: Our state budget

By Timothy T. Wyatt - Hudson | Jun 19, 2021

There is no place in the New Hampshire budget for anything other than the sound fiscal decisions needed to provide for the citizens of the state, each person equal in status to another. No one is less than another because of their sex. No law shall be made to control a person based on their gender. No person is less than another because of their culture. No law shall be made to erase the history of a person because of their culture.

No one is less than another because of their economic status. No law shall be made to oppress the poor.

The ban on abortion creates a second class of citizen status and is inappropriate for the state budget. The bill to limit discussion of racial inequality is racist and doesn’t belong in the state budget. The bill to provide education vouchers revisits the failure of separate, but equal and it also fails to achieve fiscal responsibility. The proposed elimination of unfilled staffing positions in the Department of Health and Human Services increases the suffering of those in need. The continued reduction in funding for the education of our citizens is only reasonable to those who have already been failed by that system.

The argument over abortion is no one’s business beyond the woman and her doctor.

Inciting the controversy over abortion is a tactic of division for control. All of the other mentioned inappropriate riders to the state budget are further attempts to maintain control, none of which belong in a state budget. The budget is dependent on taxation that will be challenged, if not reserved exclusively for the sound fiscal decisions needed to provide for the citizens who pay those taxes. Furthermore, this budget is filled with corporate tax giveaways and policies that place added burden on Granite State residents, either by cutting our state programs and services or increasing our property taxes to fill the gaps.
