N.H. wildlife needs you
The wildlife of New Hampshire needs YOU to defeat a bad bill in our NH Senate. Our wildlife does not have the wealthy developers on their side or the powerful state agencies, but they do have us, the people of NH.
The Senate Committee voted SB 129 Ought to Pass on February 8, 2021. This bill will weaken the NH Endangered Species Conservation Act. The bill would put endangered species continued existence into the hands and pocketbooks of developers whose projects would hurt threatened and endangered animals like the Blanding’s Turtle, the Spotted turtle, the Northern Long-Eared Bat, and birds like the Nighthawk. If we cannot protect our endangered wildlife, what do our other wild animals have awaiting them? The NH Wildlife Action Plan states (Chapter 4, p.38), “at the fast rate of development and the slow rate of conservation, more common species will become rare while already endangered species will disappear.”
This bad bill will now go to the Senate floor for a debate and a vote on Thursday, February 18 so there is no time to waste. We can stop SB 129 from passing if we all contact our Senators and let them know our wildlife needs more protection and not less in this age of climate change. Ask them to Oppose SB 129 and to advocate for our wildlife on the Senate floor. You can locate your state senator at this webpage: http://gencourt.state.nh.us/Senate/members/wml.aspx
