Milford School District leadership
The virtual squabbles continue, yet the current state of the Milford School District is exactly what many had asked for. Not too long ago, a few had decided they were unhappy with the School Board and the way in which it hired the Superintendent. Fair enough. Their collective solution was to undermine the board’s activities and create chaos, in order to eventually rid themselves of the board members who had wronged them. I guess that is also fair. They organized, printed signs and t-shirts, and with the help of some key people within the district, were able to realize that goal. One by one, those offending parties were either defeated, or left on their own and new members installed, who would surely be sympathetic to their cause.
I don’t think they counted on the resulting board being an anemic group, unable to get out of its own way and move the district forward, though it really made no difference because the Superintendent was the ultimate prize all along. But now, with a shrewdly negotiated separation package in hand, this new board is to be entrusted with the task of hiring a new Superintendent who would restore harmony. We’ll just have to wait to see who may be up to that challenge, while an interim grapples with the turmoil of the day.
The real cost? The dollar amount is one thing, but this ordeal has cast a pall on more than one career. There are some who are no longer on speaking terms as a direct result of it. Not surprisingly, the election of School Board members, which once attracted multiple candidates for 3-year seats, can now only draw a single candidate for a one-year seat.
What now, Milford? Who will clear the wreckage?
