School vouchers
The Republicans are planning to rob the public schools of funding which is going to wealthier New Hampshire citizens to send their children to charter schools. And, they are going to raise your property taxes to accomplish this. Republicans blame Democrats for raising taxes. In truth the Republicans will raise your property taxes in order to fund this give-away.
We need the State of New Hampshire to fully fund our public schools, which serve the rich, middle class, and the poor. We should also fully support our State colleges and universities. The future progress of New Hampshire depends upon well-educated citizens, and a few other policies, such as broadband access, rail transportation, scholarships for college expenses, etc.
Vouchers to private schools do NOT help any of these goals. Public schools allow students to meet students from all economic classes, and many different religions. Private schools do not have the advantage of this type of socialization.
Vouchers for private schools also rob the public schools of proper funding. Many of our public schools in New Hampshire are underfunded. This is particularly happening in towns that do not have a rich tax base. We could solve that problem by having property taxes go to the state, and the state fund all the schools on an equal per student basis.
