Realistic governance

By Denise Clark - Milford | Dec 12, 2020

If you live in the towns of Milford, Hollis, Mont Vernon and New Boston (House District 40), one of your New Hampshire state representatives is Keith Ammon, who is a member of the Free State movement, those libertarian-leaning folks who moved to New Hampshire from elsewhere expressly to overtake the Granite State government, lured here by a mistaken interpretation of our state motto.

Right out of the gate, recently elected State Rep. Ammon went on record in opposition to Governor Sununu’s recent executive order requiring masks in NH.

Here’s what local media reported recently:

Mask objectors

State Rep.-Elect Keith Ammon, R-New Boston, represents those in the GOP unhappy with Sununu’s executive order requiring masks.

“I will be attending the House Republican caucus tomorrow without a mask. Try and stop me,” Ammon tweeted last Thursday, moments after Sununu’s announcement.

“Try and stop me” – or what, exactly? Sounds like an implied threat. Is that what we want from our legislators?

Nobody likes wearing a mask. Nobody wants to get COVID, either. As Keith Ammon’s constituent, I ask: What about MY right to NOT be exposed to maskless potential asymptomatic carriers? Apparently, my rights don’t matter.

And this is what we can expect from a Republican majority legislature: Only SOME people’s rights will matter, just not necessarily YOURS.

What we need in the New Hampshire Legislature is less whiny posturing and sublime threats from vocal Republicans, and more realistic governance for everyone in NH.
