Vote for Dan Feltes

By James Heffron - Nelson | Oct 24, 2020

At this summer’s GOP Convention, the party “RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention will adjourn without adopting a new platform. . . .” This led distinguished former Republican George Will to observe in the Oct. 8 Washington Post that “Republicans said: Trump is all that we are.” In other words the GOP is simply a cult of personality. “Trump R Us” should be its motto.

In 2019 Governor Sununu thundered “I’m a Trump guy through and through.” On Oct. 1 he unequivocally endorsed Trump’s reelection. In so appeasing Trump, Sununu mortgaged whatever integrity, moral authority and genuine independence he may have had.

That’s why though he may not be an actor per se, he’s accountable for Trump and his government’s horror show. As of Sununu’s Oct. 1 endorsement, only a blind man couldn’t see what Trump and his ilk have wrought. To name a few: Gross, fatal incompetence dealing with coronavirus. 36 million unemployment claims this year. Immoral child separations at the border. Supporting white supremacists. Calling military “losers” and “suckers.” Coddling Putin and Russia. Exacerbating climate change. Aggravating working people’s plight with regressive tax/safety net policies. Promoting voter suppression. Poisoning governance through nepotism, cronyism, politicization. Seeking annullment of Obamacare.

Governor Sununu’s knowing appeasement of Trump brings to mind Winston Churchill’s insight that “an appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.” Voters: let’s not wait to see who the crocodile eats last. On Nov. 3, vote Feltes.
