We need Cindy Rosenwald

By Wendy L. Geffner-Smith - Nashua | Oct 17, 2020

In my opinion, State Sen. Cindy Rosenwald must be re-elected to the New Hampshire Senate. Her work over the years to lower the cost of health care has been stellar.

New Hampshire has the dubious distinction of the highest health care costs in the entire country, and the ever-increasing cost of prescription drugs is one of the biggest contributors to those high costs.

This spring, Senator Rosenwald was one of the lead sponsors on HB 1280, which takes a multi-faceted approach to put a lid on those high drug costs, which are a barrier to people having access to care.

HB 1280 puts a cap on monthly insulin costs, which is very important to me. I am among the 10% of New Hampshire’s population that requires insulin to survive, so this issue is personal. We now have the most progressive insulin cap law in the country thanks to this bill.

Sen. Rosenwald worked hard to include a reverse auction provision in this bill, which will allow the state to conduct multiple and transparent live bidding rounds for its prescription drug contracts for state workers. New Jersey enacted a similar law several years ago and saved $1 billion in the first two years!

The bill also outlaws price gouging and sets up a process for saving more money on medications over the years that will benefit individuals, employers, and taxpayers alike.

We will all benefit from HB 1280, and I am proud of my senator for working so hard to make sure it was passed and signed into law. We need Cindy Rosenwald back in the State Senate to keep working on our behalf to lower the cost of health care.
