Let’s make America great again!
As the lies and schoolyard-level bluster related to everything from Joe Biden, the sabotaging of the Post Office and our electoral system, as well as cheerleading a potentially-unsafe, hastily-rushed COVID-19 vaccine to the public before the 2020 elections continue to flow out of Donald Trump’s Jagger-sized mouth, one wonders about the level of both decency and intellect that his base subscribes to.
We’re talking about a president who spent two months laughing at both the severity of the coronavirus back in January through mid-March, relentlessly insulting the public’s worries about the pandemic as it spread inexorably from China to Europe to our shores, as well as continually ridiculing scientists like Dr. Anthony Fauci who were doing their best to keep citizens with an IQ level over 70 apprised of what was happening.
This is the miscreant “leader” who has fomented and governed over the worst increase of anti-African American racist acts by White authority in our post-1964 Civil Rights Act history, a Racist-In-Chief who has led a near-continual drumbeat against our Black and Muslim citizens both in print and in legislation passed. These acts have encompassed everything from travel bans, a four-year attack against Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act (which is actually utilized by many of Trump’s most ardent supporters), and denigrating COLOR OF CHANGE/BLACK LIVES MATTER, along with the rest of his like-minded family, for their activism against the systemic racism and victimization that every Black person in America is living with to a greater or lesser extent. Not to mention his July signing of his much-cheered bill designed to prevent low-income housing in our suburban areas, appealing to the White bigotry that exists in many of those localities.
The present ugly version of what had been a great nation is the fault of the voters who unleashed this caricature of a president four years ago, an electorate that embraced a terribly-run campaign of misinformation and misogyny, unsubstantiated insults against both his primary GOP candidates and later Hillary Clinton, and a near-complete lack of even basic knowledge pertaining to domestic and international issues, spouting generalities and falsehoods repeatedly in both interviews and debates. All of which was swallowed by a White electorate majority, women and men alike, like manna from heaven, just as they’re currently swallowing his ludicrous claims that all of America’s present ills are due to Biden and the Democrats when Trump and his GOP party have been in charge for the past four years! To many of these voters they had finally gotten the hatemonger who talks and emotes at the same level that they do, a latter-day David Duke that they could get behind.
Is this ugly national personality what America is now? A majority race that hates and fears any-and-every-one not White and Straight? A Republican political party espousing continuous lie-streaming regarding voting laws, mail-in ballots, anti-science denials from climate change to air pollution, along with a complete disregard of the empathy and inclusiveness that we should all be striving for? America’s laws have swung dangerously and harmfully to the right in the past four years ruining millions of lives, as many minority gains have been eviscerated, air and water cleanliness regulations have been gutted, and the gulf between the haves (the top 10% of rich Americans owning 85% of NYSE assets), and the have-nots (the overwhelming percentage of lower-middle-class and poor Americans) has become unbridgeable.
America’s moral authority and guiding compass were obliterated four years ago. On November 3rd, let’s make sure we bring them both back. LET’S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.
