House takes decorum seriously

By Stephen J. Shurtleff - Speaker of the New Hampshire House | Sep 19, 2020

I would like to thank you once again for allowing the New Hampshire House of Representatives to use the Whittemore Center for the final sessions of the Legislature during the COVID-19 pandemic. Without your hospitality and the hard work of you and the staff at the University of New Hampshire we would have never been able to accomplish the historic task of moving the legislature out of the State House and into the Whittemore Center.

I also want to also take a moment and apologize for the actions of some of our members taken at yesterday’s session. It came to my attention that some of the members were drinking beer in the hall and that some members were outside of the Whittemore Center, without masks, against both UNH and Durham protocol and ordinances. Please know that the House takes decorum very seriously and the actions of a few do not represent the New Hampshire House of Representatives as a whole.

Once again, I want to extend my sincere gratitude for all of the work of everyone in the University of New Hampshire community to accommodate the New Hampshire House over these past few months, and again extend our apologies to the University of New Hampshire and the town of Durham for the inappropriate behavior by a minority of members of the House.
