Carbon pricing: We need to act now
Since 2009, carbon pricing has been an offer on the table to battle climate change. Plans have been discussed and supported by both political parties on the federal and state levels. But recently there has been a halt on discussion to implement this plan.
The most recent attempt which had support from both the democrats and republicans in the House of Representatives was in 2019. This was the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. This proposes placing a fee of $15 per metric tonne on carbon and then raising it by $10 per year. Then this money would be divided equally among households to help pay for greener energy.
This plan has been the most well received and has gained the most support. If we are to stop the horrible effects of climate change, we need to support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.
