Climate change and wildfires

By Megan Pardoe - Nashua | Aug 29, 2020

Over the past several days, California has been hit with a large amount of wildfires again. These fires have been the second and third largest in California history. Scientists site that climate change has allowed for drier conditions which in turn started over 600 fires.

Over 100,000 people have been evacuated out of these areas and the fires have left seven people dead. This is tragic and the fires need to be prevented in the future. The best way to do this is to implement a plan to stop climate change.

The best plan for this in the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. This plan will place a fee on carbon at the source of 15 dollars per metric tonne then raise it by 10 dollars each year. Then with this money collected it would be returned equally among households. This will allow for greenhouse gas emissions to fall and allow for greener energy sources to be used. Thus allowing for the stop to the dangerous consequences of climate change.

Wildfires are extremely dangerous and are hitting California at an already tough time. To stop wildfires from continuing to develop and spread we must implement a smart climate change plan.
