Board should give notice

By Howard Coffman - Nashua | Aug 22, 2020

When Superintendent Jahmal Mosley pursued a position outside of the district without giving the Nashua Board of Education prior notice, he demonstrated a lack of commitment, not only to completing his contract, but to the City that welcomed him with open arms. Jahmal Mosley was given a great opportunity when Nashua hired him to lead such a large and diverse school district without any prior superinThe Point Of No Return

Climate change has always been a looming threat. But we have hit a point of no return with Greenland’s ice sheets. These ice sheets help to hold back the rising sea levels allowing coastal cities not to flood.

Greenland has been suffering from the effects of climate change for decades. But the point of no return has been hit. Scientists calculated that with the rising temperature and lack of snowfall the ice sheets in Greenland will not be able to maintain themselves. This will cause a rise of 18 feet in the world’s sea levels. Thus pushing rising waters into coastal cities causing major flooding.

Even if emissions are lowered by half with the 2050 goal, this would not help these ice sheets to return to normality. The goal would not be to build back the ice sheets of Greenland but to prevent the flooding of coastal cities.

It’s disappointing that he would consider leaving his position just days before this very difficult school year starts with students and parents still very confused about what instruction is going to be provided. It says a lot about how the superintendent feels about Nashua and our students to consider leaving during the coronavirus crisis.

The Board needs to be proactive to get control of the situation, or risk being stranded mid-year.

In my opinion, the Board should give notice to Jahmal Mosley that his contract will not be renewed. It’s contractually required to provide the superintendent notice and the opportunity to find another position. More importantly, this will allow the Board to begin the arduous and lengthy process of finding a qualified replacement for the superintendent position.

Mr. Coffman previously served on the Nashua Board of Education from 2016 to 2019 and voted to give Jahmal Mosley his position at the Nashua School District.
