Unsubsidized bus service

By Donald Armstrong - Henniker | Aug 8, 2020

You recently ran a story on three bus services getting 7.5 million to restart their service. In the article the writer states that “The three private companies receive little subsidies unlike public systems and operate on revenue from passenger tickets, she said, noting Concord Coach receives some state subsidies for providing service to rural areas.”

That’s false. The state bought 16 buses for millions to allow the bus companies to start up the service. Then provided them with “free of all rent “space at exit 5 on I-93 for the state funded bus service center. They use all the park and ride lots for free and they have an exclusive contract that bars any other providers from using any of those lots. In fact they gave them a private contract that was then extended. In Manchester they announced they would not use the bus station unless they got paid more money to stop there. The money was ponied up to continue service to Manchester.
