Open our schools, end mandates

By John Cawthron - Nashua | Aug 8, 2020

Back in March when Gov. Chris Sununu declared a State of Emergency in New Hamsphire over COVID-19, the response by the Granite State was robust. People went above and beyond to prevent our hospitals from being overloaded and to “flatten the curve.”

Five months later, what was predicted did not occur. We now have a mound of data at our disposal.

95.6 % (387) of all the fatalities in NH are people ages 60+, with 62.5 percent (253) of those being people aged 80+.

Not a single fatality has been recorded in New Hampshire of anyone under 19 years old, and nationally the number of fatalities from ages 0-14 is 25.

The infection fatality rate (IFR), that is the number of people who die out of all people who get the disease, is significantly lower than seasonal influenza for most people under 65 (~.00032% to .14%) and higher for those older than 65 (5%). (Reference). Seasonal influenza IFR is about 0.1% across all ages.

It is time to let the children go back to school and to not allow our children to be held hostage by teachers unions that want to use this crisis, for their own monetary gain.

It is time that state and local government to allow healthy people to get back to normal and to end these useless mask mandates.

We need to end the “quarantine everyone” mindset and get back to work.
