Dems stand against half of country

By Timothy C. Tiches - Nashua | Aug 8, 2020

Mr. Raymond Guarino in his Aug. 2nd letter questioned my previously published letter on July 18. He’s right, as history was not my favorite subject. However, he ignored my assertion that the original U.S. political party of slavery was the Democrat Party. Yes, I mean Democrat Party vs. Democratic Party. The Republican Party consists of Republicans, so since Democrats make up their party, it’s appropriate to call it the Democrat Party. Democrats use “Democratic” to make them feel better and so everyone will think they are more benevolent.

I also agree with Mr. Guarino that people vote, but so do legislative representatives they elect. Southern congressional Democrats at that time voted for slavery throughout our expanding country and to secede otherwise. Mr. Guarino cannot refute that fact, period, no matter how much he tried to deflect with unrelated history. Furthermore, the actions of their voters fueled the Civil War.

Mr. Guarino’s explanation about splitting of the party; who some of them fought for; that they were just as racist as the Republicans; and about a stalemated election well after the war allowing confederates (southern Democrats) to freely employ racism shows me that he could not contest my simple claim that southern Democrats in Congress voted “to die” for slavery.

Instead of taking responsibility for their past role, the Democrat Party blames others for siding with slavery proponents. They don’t condemn those who lawlessly raze statues and destroy property and businesses. They don’t rebuke the defunding of resources that help keep minority communities safe and provide limited protection from harm. They oppose allowing minorities to choose non-public educational opportunities. Their policies encourage minorities to depend on the government rather than themselves. They promote the destruction of long-standing institutions or the altering of long-lasting laws/rules to favor their politics.

I agree with Mr. Guarino that the US was a racist country but disagree that it still is. Racism has not been, nor will ever be eradicated here but we’ve progressed enormously seeking equality, an aim that can never be fully attained. Every two years when elections are scheduled, I’m called a racist only because I belong to an opposing political party. This Democrat election tactic has worked successfully for getting their candidates elected for decades and it’s not because people vote for the lesser of two evils. They garner votes with promises unkept better than Republicans who now know how to deliver.

It seems to Democrats that the murder of one black man by a white policeman is sufficient proof of systemic racism. If so, then a protest is proof of systemic violence because one policeman (non-white) was murdered by a protestor.

If the cancel culture is real, they would eradicate everybody associated with slavery. That’s far from what is occurring since only particular advocates of slavery are being “cancelled”. And because I believe the “cancel culture” to be a political ploy, especially since I haven’t heard Democrats condemn it. Just like then, the Democrat Party stands against half the country.
