Dear Ward 9 neighbors

By Paula Desjardins Moran - Nashua | Jul 18, 2020

My name is Paula Desjardins Moran and I am running for Ward 9 NH State Representative. As many of you know, the New Hampshire House of Representatives is made up of 400 members state wide, making it one of the largest legislative bodies in the world. In accordance with the NH way of fiscal responsibility, each representative is paid approximately $600 for a 2 year term, along with mileage and postage reimbursement. Here in Nashua, we have 9 wards x 3 Representatives each for a total representation of27 members (roughly 7%) of the 400 total head count.

A little about me: proud Nashua native, class of 1980 Nashua High graduate (I’ll save you the math, I am 58 years young). Married to husband Tom 35 years, self – employed Neew Hampshire-licensed mechanical engineer and small business owner; this is very important because should you choose to vote for me you are really getting a “two for one” and my husband is the most intelligent and practical person I know. My son Patrick and his wife Felicia are primary and middle school teachers. As for myself, I am a 35+ year employee of BAE Systems here in Nashua, with experience in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management,Program Management and Finance. My undergraduate degree is in Business and Economics from St. Anselm College in Nashua, I also have an M.B.A from Rivier University and an M.A. in Theology from Notre Dame College in Manchester (sadly now closed).

As we all know, every election is important. That said, it is not an overstatement that the November 2020 election is pivotal. COVID-19, next to 9-11 and the Challenger Explosion, are the defining events of my generation. The world faces unprecedented challenges that CAN and mostly DO bring out the best in people. More than ever, NH needs a solid cross section of collaborative people to share ideas and make things happen, not to be entrenched and stymied in ideologies. Let’s be frank- Democracy is time-consuming and demanding, and 100% worth the effort. Let me call to your attention that at this time all 27 of the State Representatives from Nashua are from the same political party, which does not tend to generate the diversity of ideas needed for long-term growth and solutions.

So here is my pledge to you: I am a collaborative, problem-solving person who really believes in the N.H. Way – keep government focused on what it SHOULD do best: provide for the common good and civil liberties, solid infrastructure, and lowest realistic taxes. Also essential is the social safety net of public services. NO SALES OR INCOME TAX, this is what makes NH unique and must be preserved. My pledge to you is to analyze all legislation, to focus on long-term solutions that can be implemented, to listen to all positions, to ALWAYS be willing to explain my choices and to accept your feedback one way or the other.

Nobody who runs for NH state level office is in it for the money, this is about public service; no one can make a living serving in the NH Legislature, NOR SHOULD THEY. New Hampshire has a citizen legislature, not professional full-time politicians. This is as much a part of the NH Way as no sales or income tax.

What else would you like to know about me? I live at 19 Bramble Drive, my home phone is 882-6053,reach out to me. Hopefully you remember my name on the ballot from 2 years ago, I had the privilege of knocking on hundreds of doors. Since this is a Presidential election year, turnout should be strong! Voting is both a duty and a privilege. Take the time to evaluate the candidates, get engaged in the process. Our primary on Tuesday September 8 is especially critical this year as there are 4 Republicans who must be narrowed down to 3 for the November ballot. Please mark this date on your calendar and encourage your neighbors to do the same. Also, please visit my website, pauladmorannh.org.
