Hospice patients still need you!

By Patty Cooper - Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Amedisys Hospice, Bedford | Jul 4, 2020

Thank you for the chance to let our community know about an opportunity to make a difference for hospice patients while remaining safe during a time when the fear of covid is a concern for so many. Amedisys Hospice is offering online hospice training sessions for the summer months. The trainings are free and after completion of these trainings, an individual would be certified as a hospice volunteer and would be able to support hospice patients in our community. The trainings are informative and the individual may choose to volunteer in whatever capacity they prefer, visiting patients OUTSIDE with proper mask protection and social distancing, or by assisting with non-patient contact projects such as making birthday cards for patients, providing check in phone calls to patients, administrative projects and special projects for veterans. This is a great opportunity for individuals looking to enrich their lives by helping a person feel supported during their end of life journey.

Hospice care is about people helping people nearing the end of their lives. A volunteer may read to a patient, work on a puzzle together or simply just sit and visit. A volunteer does not ever physically move a patient, administer medications, feed a patient, or bathe or dress a patient, at any time.

If you are interested in doing something worthwhile with your time this summer, please contact Patty Cooper at Amedisys Hospice at 603-421-0414 or patricia.cooper@amedisys.com.
